“Blues Avenue” is an acoustic, hi-swing but low volume trio, comprising three of Adelaide’s most acclaimed musicians.

As part of “Sweet Baby James & Rob Eyers”, James was nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year at the 2007 Bluestar Awards and Album & Band of the Year at the 2006 Australian Blues Music Awards. In 2007, James was appointed Official Ambassador of the Australian Blues Music Festival and played at numerous high profile festivals and events including WOMADelaide & the ABC 75th Anniversary Concert. Also last year, he was featured in a two-page interview in Australian Guitar Magazine and is currently considered one of Australia’s finest blues guitarists.

Denis “the Preacher” Surmon (vocals/upright bass/cajon drum)
An experienced and consummate professional, Denis gained prominence in cult local band “Double Wammy” before becoming a fixture on Adelaide’s corporate music scene. His long list of bands including “The Grouse”, “Walk The Line: The Johnny Cash Show” and “Panic!” have graced the stages of a huge number of big company events and high profile pubs. His deep, soulful vocals and great onstage persona never fails to win over audiences!

 Rob Eyers - Drums. Rob is the magical other half of the Sweet Baby James and Rob Eyers Blues/Roots dou and is an exceptional musician. Rob was named Drummer of the Year in the 2008 Derringers Blues Awards. A recent addition to Blues Avenue, his intelligent and multilayered rhythms have transformed the former swing duo into a dynamic dance trio.

“Blues Avenue” plays classic blues and swing numbers with a great “unplugged” vibe. The Band's repertoire extends from Louis Jordan, T-Bone Walker, Robert Johnson to contemporary blues artists like Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and Brian Setzner.
