Live music venues are becoming rarer than…

Ducks lips. So when there is a venue — possibly near you — playing live music, and if you enjoy live music and social interaction, you should probably support the place in order to keep music and entertainment live.

These days there are many obstacles that inhibit us from going out to venues to hear and see live music and musicians: Netflix, takeaway booze, Uber food type deliveries, laziness, getting a bit older (sad but true), costs, and the prevalence of wallopers with their blue lights and breathalysers.

There’s also the trepidation of going somewhere new or different…

Nevertheless, there are musicians playing in venues old and new-ish,  singing presenting shows that require an audience.

You.

And you!  You’re not getting left out of this rant.

In the Eastern suburbs there is an (apparently) new venue that has been operating under the radar for about a year, presenting live music of various kinds, is a SCALA venue and this year will be a Fringe venue. The Magill Club. ((6 Uren Street – just east of the Tower Hotel).

It’s not fancy; as a club it’s long-established, has a very good main room, a sports TV room and an outdoor area where you can light up a durrie or a joint and cruise. Oh… it has a good bar and a kitchen. The vibe is: casual. Relaxed. No DJ.

If you’re in the East it’s handy and the price of admission is always reasonable. And there are back streets to walk, ride or sneak along to get home.

Music and entertainment runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday and SCALA takes over one Wednesday  a month.

Why not make a start by rocking out with The Grouse on Saturday, February 1?   The Grousies have turned off their TVs, dragged themselves out of their massage recliners, kicked off the slippers and made a fukkin’ effort. So it’s only reasonable that you should, too.

Perhaps going somewhere different could be exciting. Not as exciting as a hasty knee-trembler in the dunny at Maccas but…

Anyway, look for the Facebook posters: The Grouse, THE MAGILL CLUB (CLUBHideaway) 6 Uren Street, Magill. Saturday Feb 1.
