Rising in the east

It’s not new, but it has been restarted, renamed and running along quite nicely.

CLUBHideaway — using the premises of the Magill Club (6 Uren St, Magill) has opened its doors for musicians and performers and for anyone who likes good music in a decent venue. Oh… and reasonable drink prices!

CLUBHideaway, according to its promoter, Rob Scott, has two main objectives: One is to bring new members to the McGill club in order to achieve the other aim which is to create a member-driven club for musicians and performers; a place where they can congregate and create a hotspot for South Australian music in the eastern suburbs.

The intention, Rob says, is to help all performers and associated acts to have a welcoming and supportive environment in a well-maintained and appropriately equipped venue. Can’t knock that!

Having enjoyed an evening of music (and beer) at CLUBHideaway, I suggest that it is a welcome alternative to the few clubs in the city — and the long-running good club in the far western suburbs — where one can go to hear good musicians and good music.

They charge at the door between 10 and 20 bucks — which is pretty fair these days — and the venue has room for 100 or more, a decent stage and quite reasonable performance gear.  Anyway, as far as I’m concerned, it’s good to have a venue in the east that hasn’t succumbed to the allure of the tribute act. So far!!!

CLUBHideway operates Saturdays and has recently opened up Wednesdays as an acoustic/whatever gig.  So there you have it. Look it up:  CLUBHideaway (one word), 6 Uren Street McGill and it’s on Facebook.
